General FAQ's
What are the Learning Commons’ hours of operation?
Our services are available during the hours listed below:
Normal Hours of Operation: Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., and Fridays from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Summer Hours: Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Learning Commons is closed on weekends and holidays.
Who is eligible for our services?
Learning Commons services such as tutoring, coaching, and computer use are available for all currently enrolled TSC students. This includes:
- Dual-enrolled high school students
- Division of workforce development students
- TSC GED Prep students
- Students enrolled in Florida Public Safety Institute (FPSI)
- Enrolled students preparing for HESI, FTCE, General Knowledge, and Professional Development Exams
How can I get assistance when the Learning Commons is closed?
The Learning Commons has partnered with Brainfuse, an online tutoring service available 24/7. Students can receive virtual tutoring from Brainfuse tutors, and submit papers for review.

Are study rooms available?
Study rooms are currently unavailable in the Learning Commons. Study rooms are available in the TSC Library.
Where can I take an Honorlock test in the Learning Commons?
The Honorlock testing room is available on a walk-in/first-come-first-serve basis on the first floor in the Learning Commons. Please see the front desk staff to use the Honorlock. Room.
Honorlock Room Hours of Operation: Mondays through Thursdays from 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. (6:30 p.m. latest entry time), and Fridays from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (4 p.m. latest entry time).
Summer Hours: Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (4 p.m. latest entry time).

Tutoring FAQ's
How do I sign in for a tutoring conference?
You can learn how to sign in for our services by watching this video (link) or following the steps below:
Step 1: Sign in to Workday to get in line for tutoring here by clicking this link.
Step 2: Select the type of conference you would like:
- In Person
- Virtual
Step 3: Select from either one of your currently registered courses, or the following alternative courses (these are both drop-down menus, and you may only select from one of these sections, not both):
- Career & Personal Writing
- Civic Literacy
- Coaching (success coach conference)
- FTCE Prep
- General Assistance
- GK Prep
- HESI Prep
- URS (Undergraduate Research Symposium)
Step 4: Select the correct Academic Period

When a tutor is available, you will receive a text message to the phone number registered in your Workday student account, and an email to your TSC student email with the next steps.
If you would like to view your sessions and/or cancel a session, you can view your Learning Commons Sessions dashboard in Workday by clicking the following link.
How long are tutoring sessions? How many sessions can I sign up for in a day?
This will depend on the type of tutoring session. Most tutoring sessions are limited up to 30 minutes except for Reading Conferences (up to 60 minutes).
You can request as many tutoring sessions as needed. However, you are required to wait at least 30 minutes between sessions. Please note that the queue closes 45 minutes before operating hours end.
During normal business hours, the latest students can sign in for tutoring are Mondays through Thursdays by 6:45 p.m., and Fridays by 4:15 p.m.
During Summer hours, the latest students can in sign in for tutoring is Mondays through Fridays at 4:15 p.m.

Academic Success Coaching in the Learning Commons is a free service to students at Tallahassee State College offered to help students advance their college success skills, navigate the new college environment, and achieve their academic, professional, and personal goals.
Our team of Academic Success Coaches offers guidance and resources to students in a non-judgmental and supportive environment.

Do I have a success coach?
Many students are assigned a success coach during their first year, and success coaching is available to all students at Tallahassee State College. Check your text messages and TSC email regularly for updates from your success coach.
What can I expect during my first success coaching meeting?
During your first success coaching meeting, you can expect to discuss your current classes, the challenges you are experiencing, and your goals.
How do I set up an appointment with a success coach?
You are encouraged to reach out to your academic success coach via email, text message, or phone to set up an appointment. To obtain your success coach's information to schedule an appointment, check out our staff page here.
Is my success coach the same person as my advisor?
No. Your success coach is not an academic advisor. You can connect with your assigned academic advisor through the TSC Advisor Connection icon on Workday. Learn more about academic advising.
