The mission of the TSC Learning Commons is to support students, both on campus and online, in their cognitive and affective development by providing academic support and learning strategies with professional and individualized service. The Learning Commons aspires to contribute to TSC’s role as the college of choice for students through a trained, respectful staff in a welcoming, nonjudgmental, and helpful environment.

Welcome to a new academic year! On behalf of the Library, Learning Commons, and Innovation Hub teams, I am excited to welcome you to campus and remind you that we are here to support your success every step of the way.
Together, our three teams provide the resources, expertise, and opportunities you need to thrive academically, develop new skills, and make the most of your college experience both inside and outside the classroom.

MEET THE STAFF

Dr. Anthony Jones Dr. Anthony Jones serves as Dean of the Division of Library Services and Learning Commons, providing strategic leadership for the Library, Learning Commons, Success Coaching, and Innovation Hub. He brings more than two decades of higher education experience spanning instruction, academic administration, and student development, having held a range of faculty and leadership roles at the College. He holds a B.S. in Biology, an M.S. in Cellular and Molecular Biology, and a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership, all from Florida A&M University. Dr. Jones also directs the Tallahassee Science Festival and serves as chair of the Board of Directors for Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Big Bend. |

Danny Hawke (he/him) Danny has a B.A. in Mathematics from California State University of San Bernardino and is currently working on an M.S. in Higher Education Administration at Southern New Hampshire University. He has over a decade of higher education experience tutoring, teaching, and assisting students to become successful independent learners. His hobbies include playing D&D with his family, video games, and reading. He is also a published fantasy author. |

Jonathas Petit Jonathas has an Associate of Arts leading to Mathematics Education, a Bachelor of Science in Business, and is currently enrolled in a Mathematics Education Master’s program. He taught high school mathematics for more than a decade and has been tutoring college math for more than five years. Jonathas’ passion is helping students succeed and achieve their goals. He also likes to travel and take long drives. All five of his children like mathematics. |

John Salter John has been tutoring, teaching, coaching, and assisting students while working in education for more than a decade. He has an Associate of Arts, a Bachelor of Science (Secondary Mathematics Education), and a Master's in Business Administration. His passions include spending time with family and preparing young people for life after graduation. |

Michael Ochocki Michael is from Clearwater, Florida and holds two Bachelor's degrees, a B.A. in history from the University of Florida, and a B.A. in mathematics from Southern New Hampshire University. He has been assisting students in education for over two years and is a proud recipient of TSC's OPS C.A.R.E. award. As an avid lifelong learner, he enjoys studying languages, reading philosophy, playing chess, and going on long walks. |

Kevin Muñoz Kevin Muñoz has a B.S. in Accounting from Florida State University and plans to pursue a Master of Accounting before becoming a licensed CPA. With over two years of experience in leadership, education, and mentorship roles, Kevin has helped students become confident and independent learners. They are passionate about student success and hope to build a career in higher education. Their hobbies include attending live music events, playing video games, and learning to play electric guitar. |

Chris McDonald Chris is a Tallahassee native, a Salsa and Latin Dancer, and an avid runner and trail biker. He is also an Adjunct Faculty member at TSC. He has a B.S. in Neurobiological Science from the University of Florida and an M.S. in Medical Science with a concentration in Anatomy from USF. |

Naseer Ali Naseer is an Adjunct Faculty member at TSC. He has a B.S. in Biology from the University of New Mexico (UNM) and an M.S. in Chemistry with a concentration in Fluorinated Organic Molecules from New Mexico Highlands University (NMHU). He also likes to read science books and articles related to chemistry, watch documentary movies, and travel. |

Jessie Clayton Jessie has a B.S. degree in Information Systems from Auburn University and has worked at Tallahassee State College for over 17 years. He holds orientations, tutors students, and works directly with IT Personnel to troubleshoot hardware and software computer issues. He ensures that technology is coordinated with the classrooms. Jessie is also a member of the Association of Florida Colleges (AFC). |

Greg Schaberg (he/him) Greg has been assisting TSC students since 1998. He received his A.A. from Valencia College in Orlando, his B.A. in Spanish and Linguistics from FSU, and his Master’s in Multilingual/Multicultural Education from FSU. Before attending college, Greg worked as a costume character at Sea World, appearing as Baby Shamu and Pete Penguin – as well as several other adorable sea creatures. |

Dr. Jerrie M. Del Vecchio Dr. Del Vecchio has been with TSC since 2013 as a Learning Specialist in Communication. Previously, she was employed with FSU as an assistant researcher and teaching assistant while pursuing her doctorate in Interdisciplinary Humanities. Her research interests include but are not limited to Women's Studies, History, Geography, and International Affairs. |

Kirsten Wimberg Kirsten has a B.A. in English from Christopher Newport University as well as an M.Litt and an M.F.A. in Shakespeare and Performance from Mary Baldwin University. She is a current Ph.D. Candidate at Florida State University in the Literature/Media/Culture program. She has been teaching composition and literature since 2019. Kirsten enjoys reading and producing modern and early modern plays– her favorite is John Lyly's "Galathea." |

Letia Hughes Letia holds degrees in Business Administration and Curriculum & Instruction and is pursuing a Master of Divinity. With over a decade in education, she inspires students to hope and dream. She treasures her two Japanese Bobtail cats and enjoys LEGO builds, comic books, and documentaries. |

Shekitta Allen Shekitta received her B.A. in English from Valdosta State University and continued with her education to receive an M.A. in English, with a focus on 18th-century Gothic Literature. She has been a Communications Specialist in the Learning Commons for ten years. Shekitta also teaches classes at TSC. She enjoys anything Star Wars: Canon and/or Legends. |

Kylie Adams Kylie holds a B.S. in Human Development and Family Sciences, which she completed at FSU after moving to Tallahassee in 2022. She now assists TSC students in identifying their personalized path for success. Her hobbies consist of outdoor activities like bird-watching, caring for animals, and going for walks. |

HISTORY
The William D. Law, Jr. Learning Commons first opened its doors in 2008. Before that, the building had been used as the Legislative Research Center and Museum that housed historic items that were eventually moved to the old Capital building in downtown Tallahassee.
In 2006, Dr. William D. Law, Jr., fifth president of TSC from 2002-2010, announced that the building would be converted to the new “Learning Commons.”
Faculty and staff from across TSC’s campus collaborated tirelessly as they planned the physical layout of the building, and developed best practices that allowed the newly formed division to provide tutoring for all TSC students. Before the opening of the Learning Commons, learning assistance was spread out across campus.
Today, the Learning Commons has and is constantly evolving in order to be able to serve TSC’s growing diverse student population. Here, students can find quiet study spaces and friendly faces who are here to support their academic journey, and much more.
